What is an hCard?

Updated October 22, 2026

hCard is a simple, open format for publishing people, companies and organizations on the web, using a one-to-one representation of vCard (RFC 2426) properties and values in HTML. hCard is one of several open microformats for embedding data in HTML.

The vCard standard is supported by nearly every address book, from Apple Contacts to Outlook.

With a little structure, as defined by hCard, a web page can describe a person in a way that search engines and other tools can read, turn into a vCard and import into any address book.

hCard uses the same properties as vCard, in semantic HTML, so you can publish contact details on a page, style them as you like, and still let software read them without a separate file. Every card page on vcrd.co is marked up as an hCard.
